the Miguelito
In my design and engineering class we are studying different bikes. For this action project we were given a persona and had to create a bike that would meet all their needs. My persona was a 12 year old boy named Miguel that lives in Spain. Some of the problems that he was facing were vandalism, bumping into people with large bags, narrow cobblestone roads, and the fact that he lived all the way on the third floor. We were able to partner up if we wanted to. I think having a partner is better because you can put your ideas together to make an even better bike. For this project we met with people from Dyson and even tried out electric bikes. We also got some help from Chicago mobile makers while making our bike models. After all of this prepping we got to work! My partner and I used cardboard, straws, buttons, aluminum foil, a sticky note to build our model.
In conclusion I really enjoyed this AP. I liked thinking about all the different things that can go into the bike. The design process was pretty simple, my partner and I made sure to have all the things we needed. I learned about different seats, pedals, wheels, and handle bars. Overall, I would love to do this project again but with different materials and maybe even make it more life-size.
