should people be eligible for parole after serving 20 years ?
We are in our second unit in rhetoric. We focused on the status quo and asked ourselves, "how can we change it?" We spoke with Ugo Okere who was a 22 year old that was running for alderman of the 40th ward. He was the youngest person to run for alderman. Ugo told us how he used rhetoric during his campaigning. We also spoke to Byron sigho-lopez who is the alderman of 25th ward. Byron is very active in the community and listens to what people in the community think needs to be fixed. We also talked to Joel Hamernick who is a fellow classmate of mines dad. He wrote and op-ed of his own with assistance from others. He gave us tips and advice on how to write a good op-ed. This lead us to writing our own op-ed about something that interests us. I decided to write my op-ed about parole and the recent ask to pass a new senate bill that allows inmates that served at least 20 years to go on parole. I have attached it down below!
In conclusion, I really liked writing an op-ed. It really changed my view on inmates and made me realize how they are treated. I also liked how we got to see how we use rhetoric a lot more than we think. I enjoyed talking to different people and getting different advice and perspectives. I got a little bit of something from everyone and it helped me write my op-ed.
