Got rights? Must be nice: Zine Project
Welcome! for my equality class we have been learning about intersectionality, identity politics, social stratification, and more. For this class we went on multiple field experiences. We went to the co-prosperity artist space and gallery in Bridgeport to continue our investigation of underground and independent media's ability to educate and impact change. There we met with Lumpen Media Director Stephanie Manriquez and Public Media Institute Director Ed Marszewski to learn about their work in organizing artists to utilize publishing and media for social change. We also got the chance to go to the Jospeh Regenstein library at the University of Chicago to explore their zines special collection. Can't forget to mention our time at Howling Comics, a bookstore that specializes in small press and independent comics. Taking all of these external investigations, we were asked to create our own zines about an event in history that exemplifies the marginalization of people based on race, gender, and class with the intention of educating the present and changing the future. I chose the history on abortion, seeing as history is repeating itself now. See my thinking in my zine below. Enjoy my zine!
